Paul Thorn, Amy Queen Chappin, and Merlefest

In September, Patti and I attended Merlefest in Wilkesboro for the first time in several years. Late Sunday morning, we watched Paul Thorn perform on the Creekside stage. He is a singer-songwriter we were not familiar with. Wikipedia’s characterization of his music—a combination of Southern rock, country, Americana, and blues—seems about right.  (Youtube has a concert from 2013.) He had many enthusiastic fans in the crowd.
     We enjoyed the concert, but what it made it memorable for me was the artist working in front of us. Her small canvas was propped in a small wooden box—it looked like a cigar box—fixed atop a tripod. The canvas was positioned in my line of sight, so it was hard not to watch her paint. I don’t paint, and I’ve never witnessed a painting in progress, so I found it interesting to observe the painting evolve. I met the artist, Amy Queen Chappin, at the time, and she has since given me permission to post my photos of the painting in progress. 
     I purposefully did not photograph the finished painting. She has already sold it. If she can find her photo, she is going to send it to me and I'll post it here.
